Workers’ compensation insurance provides benefits to employees who are injured or become ill due to workplace conditions or activities. This type of insurance is mandatory in most states and is designed to replace lost wages and cover medical expenses related to work-related injuries or illnesses. The four main types of workers’ compensation insurance are medical, indemnity, disability, and death benefits.
Medical: Medical benefits cover the cost of medical treatments, rehabilitation, and related expenses for work-related injuries. This may include doctor’s visits, medications, hospitalization, surgery, and other treatments.
Indemnity: Indemnity benefits are designed to replace income lost due to an injury or illness. This may include wage replacement, or disability payments.
Disability: Disability benefits are provided to employees who are unable to return to work due to a workplace injury or illness. This may include vocational rehabilitation, or long-term disability payments.
Death Benefits: Death benefits are paid to the surviving family members of an employee who dies due to a work-related injury or illness. This may include funeral expenses, as well as lump-sum payments.
Workers’ compensation insurance is an important form of protection for employees and employers alike. It helps to ensure that workers are adequately compensated for injuries or illnesses that are caused by their job, and helps employers protect themselves from costly lawsuits.
Accident insurance
All employees, i.e., white-collar, blue-collar, self-employed and even part-time employees, are insured against accidents. The employer pays the full amount of accident insurance.
If you are injured at work or on the way to work, the employer is not required to pay compensation, but pays the accident insurance contribution. You will receive compensation from the accident insurance company in the form of a monthly disability pension. This is compensation for the “reduced ability to work” resulting from the accident. In case of death, dependents receive a survivor’s pension.
Curative treatment and rehabilitation
After a work-related injury, you will receive comprehensive medical treatment and, if necessary, rehabilitation measures in the health, work and social spheres.
The goal is to limit the consequences of the work injury as much as possible, using all available means.
Occupational injury must be verifiable
Accident insurance benefits are available only if the accident is actually recognized as a work accident. It is relatively easy to prove this in the case of a work injury.
This becomes more difficult in the case of a road or office accident
In the case of a road accident, you need to prove, for example, that the route you chose was the most direct (the shortest) and necessary for work purposes and not a “private detour.”
In the case of the home office, you must prove that the work injury occurred during and as a result of your work activity and that there was no private cause.
Where and when do I have to apply for a pension?
After the employer informs the accident insurance company of the work injury, the insurance company usually declares the injury and determines the pension on its own initiative.
