Can I be eligible for the Chevening scholarship?

Chevening is a program created by the United Kingdom government to provide support to applicants who want to pursue a master’s degree in their territory. This support is provided to applicants from one of the countries associated with the program. Chevening provides support to pursue a postgraduate degree in a wide range of areas of study. Currently, the program has nearly 55,000 alumni around the world. One of the goals of the program is to produce leaders who drive positive change in their countries of origin (Chevening, 2023).   

To be eligible for a Chevening scholarship, there is a list of requirements that applicants must meet:

*These countries have an open call until November 7, 2023 .

  • Guarantee of return to your country of origin for at least two years upon completion of your studies.
  • Have a  completed bachelor’s degree  at the time of submitting your application.
  • Have two years of work experience.
  • Proof of having applied to 3 similar postgraduate programs in the UK.
  • If you are selected as a scholarship recipient,  your studies will begin in the fall of the following year.

Program eligibility requirements:

  • Full Time
  • Fall start date
  • Located within the United Kingdom
  • May it be recognized as a master’s degree
  • Let your focus not be research

Any program with the following characteristics cannot be chosen:

  • Part time
  • From distance
  • PhD from DPhil
  • With more than 1 month of teaching outside the UK

On the other hand, if the applicant has any of these characteristics, they will not be eligible to be a recipient of the Chevening scholarship:

  • Have dual citizenship of the United Kingdom.
  • Have refugee status in a country not eligible for Chevening scholarships.
  • Be an employee, former employee or family member of an employee of the British Crown or have been during the last two years before applying for the scholarship.
  • Have previously studied in the United Kingdom with funding from the British Government.
